AUSTIN, TX — The Lone Star College System (LSCS) Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will sponsor an educational seminar for medical office staff, including office managers and billing staff, entitled Basic Workers’ Compensation for Medical Office Staff on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. The seminar is presented by the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation. The seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lone Star College-North Harris, Room ACAD 126, 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive in Houston. The fee is $99 per person and includes lunch.
The educational seminar will provide medical office staff with practical information about rules and processes affecting health care delivery to injured employees, enabling them to effectively participate in the Texas workers’ compensation system. The educational seminar will provide information on the following topics:
- how workers’ compensation works;
- identifying a workers’ compensation patient;
- roles and responsibilities of health care providers;
- treatment guidelines:
- establishing medical necessity;
- determining when preauthorization is required for treatments and services, including dications; and
- processes:
- preauthorization;
- billing and reimbursement for professional services; and
- dispute resolution.
The TDI-DWC will provide six (6) general insurance continuing education credits. Attendees must provide their insurance-related license number at the seminar to receive credits.
